Group for Facilities Management (GFM) : Community of knowledge for FM excellence

INTRODUCTION
The Group for Facilities Management (GFM) is under a Centre for Knowledge & Understanding of Tropical Architecture & Interior (KUTAI), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM Perak), created to carry out research into facilities management (FM), to advance knowledge in the discipline and to support a network of client organisations in the built environment field.

GFM undertakes a programme of action research to contribute new knowledge, to develop new models, processes and tools and to ensure their effective application in practice. GFM carries out research into the organisation, performance and development of FM to support organisational effectiveness. GFM also undertakes strategic reviews of FM in organisations on a case-by-case basis and includes a phased study of the facilities organisation, its processes and systems, along with comparisons with best practice.

Through GFM, client organisations, service providers and community groups can access cutting edge thinking to support action and innovation. GFM's research work with its members uses a well-developed action research approach with a rigorous methodology. Research is led by action and is focused on the issues raised through engagement with the member organisations. The research cycle starts by understanding how practice in FM formulates its problems, converts this to a research question and seeks the evidence to support practical solutions
